Description
The sky was shimmering with flashes of fire, and the air was shuddering with the steady ear-splitting thunder of cannon blasts. In a long trench soldiers in olive green uniforms crouch, waiting for a signal that would send them scrambling up out of the trench onto ground that might be swept with a hail of bullets. It was May 28, 1918, and the first American soldiers ever to fight in Europe were about to make their frist American attack of World War I.
